The UK government has ordered an investigation into the £4bn acquisition of defence manufacturer Cobham by US private equity firm Advent International on national security grounds.

The move comes just two days after Advent received overwhelming shareholder approval for the deal to acquire one of UK’s oldest aerospace and defence companies.
