UK local authority pension fund turns to private equity

A £2.5bn (€4bn) UK local authority pension fund has put to tender a £100m private equity mandate as part of a restructuring of its investment strategy.

South Tyneside Metropolitan District Council's Tyne & Wear pension scheme is managed through a half balanced, half specialist approach, but will switch entirely to specialist portfolios as it believes its current benchmark will underperform in the future (Financial News, March 9).
