UK private equity firms to benefit from tax exemption

The 2002 budget presented by Gordon Brown, the UK chancellor of the exchequer, included two provisions that should provide a boost to the private equity industry, according to accounting and law firms.

Sean Finn, a tax solicitor at Lovells, the international law firm, said private equity firms would welcome the substantial shareholding tax exemption and the reform of the loan relationship legislation.
