Nest, the UK’s £6bn national public pension fund, will sell its holdings in tobacco companies because it believes they are a poor investment, joining a growing investor movement.

The eight-million-member pension fund cited efforts by governments to tighten regulation on the tobacco industry, increasingly aggressive legal action against manufacturers and falling global smoking rates as reasons for its decision.
