The Financial Services Authority, the markets watchdog taking regulatory control of UK insurance brokers in January, is to meet New York state attorney general Eliot Spitzer this week.

John Tiner, its chief executive, has been monitoring developments in Spitzer's US investigation into the insurance industry and wants to know whether he is planning to widen his legal action. Tiner will also seek information on the impact of Spitzer's inquiry on UK insurers and brokers.
