The incoming governor of the Bank of England and other senior UK regulators say it should be possible to diverge from EU financial rules after Brexit without sacrificing access to the single market.

Addressing the House of Lords EU Financial Affairs Sub-Committee on 12 February, Andrew Bailey said: “The big issue for the EU is ‘Do you want to develop capital markets union in isolation from the biggest European financial market or not?’”
