UK reins in crypto ads after spike in popularity

Cryptocurrency advertisements will be soon be regulated like most investment products under UK financial promotions rules, the Treasury announced.

The government’s 18 January statement comes as watchdogs around the world ponder how to deal with highly volatile cryptocurrencies, which have exploded in popularity. According to The Guardian, there were a record number of cryptocurrency adverts on public transportation in 2021, in particular on the London Underground.
