UK seeks greater single-market protections for City companies in Brexit trade talks

Westminster wants ‘appropriate consultation and structured processes for the withdrawal of equivalence’

The UK government wants to agree a new regulatory framework with the European Union that would better protect City companies from Brussels’ ability to quickly withdraw single-market access after Brexit.

In a 36-page document detailing its approach to the crucial next stage of Brexit negotiations, published on 27 February, the government said it wanted “legally binding obligations on market access and fair competition”.
