The UK government on Tuesday launched proposals to crack down on unacceptably large bank bonuses, saying it would target 15 banks including the UK banking operations of large foreign banks.

The proposals come amid growing frustration from the public, investors and politicians over the failure of banks to curb excessive payments to staff.
