UK tech investors not seeing the light

The City’s record on technological innovation is not great, either in its own businesses or as an investor in others

Mike Lynch, one of the most successful British entrepreneurs in recent times, argues that a key reason the UK doesn’t have a stronger technology industry is that owners of fast-growing tech businesses tend to sell out too early, often to American buyers.

Lynch knows a thing or two about this as he sold the company he founded, Autonomy, to Hewlett-Packard for £7.4 billion in very controversial circumstances that are now heading for the London courts.
