UK negotiators will ask their European counterparts to be "more flexible" in their approach to Brexit and for "imagination on both sides" in the third round of talks beginning this week, according to a statement from the government.

The statement, released on Sunday by the Department of Exiting the European Union, comes ahead of a meeting in Brussels today between Brexit secretary David Davis and the European Commission's chief negotiator Michel Barnier to formally recommence negotiations.
