UK Treasury fires buyout tax 'warning shot'

Buyout firms in the UK are facing the latest government challenge to investment returns, as the Treasury considers overhauling the laws governing tax breaks their portfolio companies obtain by operating overseas.

Private equity firms can claim interest deductibility on debt payments incurred by UK-based portfolio companies by shifting profits to holding companies in overseas European tax havens such as Luxembourg or the Channel Islands.
