UK's top boss defends scrapping final salary pensions

Digby Jones, head of the Confederation of British Industry, the industry trade body, has defended the shift away from final salary pension provision and said employers could not afford the increasing cost of these schemes.

Speaking at the latest meeting of pension leaders at a conference in Glasgow, Jones said an ageing population meant the continuing provision of final salary pensions, which link retirement income to wages, was unaffordable.
