UniCredit is considering a bid for Commerzbank, should merger talks with its German rival Deutsche Bank fail to proceed, according to reports.

The Italian bank is preparing a multibillion-euro offer for Commerzbank, the Financial Times reported, with a plan to take a sizeable stake in the German lender and merge it with HypoVereinsbank, the local bank UniCredit already owns.
