The Central Arbitration Committee has dealt a blow to Unite, the union that applied for legal recognition as the formal representative of employees at the City watchdog.

The CAC’s decision centred on Unite’s ability to prove it had a majority of support from members in the proposed bargaining unit — Unite said it had 600 staff members who were part of the union, out of some 4,000 staff.
