UPC plays down concerns over capital-raising plans

United Pan-Europe Communications, the indebted Dutch cable group, denied that it is about to try and raise money in the international capital markets, despite new plans for a shelf registration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

UPC announced, alongside its second quarter results, that it is to file for a universal shelf. This shelf is documentation that allows the company to raise equity or debt capital in the US public markets.
