An activist group behind a string of high-profile hoaxes in the US has claimed responsibility for sending a fake “Dear CEO” letter from Larry Fink, chief executive of BlackRock.

The group, known as The Yes Men, said it was behind the letter which was sent to media outlets worldwide on January 16. It said the prank was designed to put pressure on BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, to reduce its stake in “climate destruction”.
