US bank profits ‘to slump by 22%'

US investment banks' pre-tax profits will slump by almost a quarter this year on the back of stagnant M&A activity and a slow economy, according to the Securities Industry Association, an industry body.

Combined profits for broker-dealers in the US are set to reach $19bn (€15bn) by year end, down from $24.1bn last year.
