US financial sector holds allure for buyout firms

Investors are gaining greater access to the failing banks being auctioned by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation

Private equity firms are hoping the green shoots that appear to be emerging in the financial sector herald a warm spring for their investments in the sector.

Peter Gordon, co-chairman of the finance committee and a senior member of mergers and acquisitions group at law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, said: "The trend of private equity investment in financial institutions will continue, as private equity investors have identified the sector as an attractive area in which to deploy capital."
