US government criticises rating agencies over Enron

A US government committee found fault with the three main debt rating agencies for their handling of the Enron collapse, as the government opened an inquiry into their role.

Senator Joe Lieberman, chairman of the US governmental affairs committee, told Moody's, Fitch and Standard & Poor's that they did not do a good enough job in protecting bond investors.
