US government proposes post-Enron disclosure rules

The US government has proposed legislation aimed at restoring confidence in accounting and corporate disclosure - including thorough reporting of off-balance sheet deals - following the collapse of US energy company Enron.

The committee made the proposals at the same time as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) demanded that companies file annual reports more quickly and corporate executives disclose share dealings in their company shares immediately.
