More US companies have filed plans for initial public offerings in August than in any month since May 2002, according to Dealogic, the investment banking research firm.

In the past month 14 companies have filed IPO plans with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the US regulator, the most since May 2002 when 19 companies filed.
