Initial public offerings of US venture-backed companies have more than trebled in volume to $1.3bn (€1.3bn) in the second quarter of 2002, from only $376m in the first quarter.

The number of IPOs also increased from four to 12 in the second quarter, according to data from the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) and Thomson Venture Economics, the data and research firm.
