US venture capital hit new highs in 2000 despite 'dot-bombs'

US venture capital firms invested $68bn (€73.7bn) in 2000, in spite of the year's &quotdot-bombs&quot, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers MoneyTree survey in partnership with VentureOne.

There was, however, a fall in fourth-quarter investments of 18% versus the summer months. The trail-off in investment was in part due to Geocapital and Crosspoint, two seasoned US venture capital firms, who decided to cancel their mega funds.
