Falling infection rates and scrutiny of the AstraZeneca shot by medicines regulators show that the government’s vaccine programme “is working”, health secretary Matt Hancock said.

Data released on 8 April from the latest REACT study by Imperial College London showed London and the south east of England reported the sharpest drops in infection rates between February and March.
