A consortium of venture capital firms has profited from Bertelsmann's declining interest in e-commerce by acquiring Bertelsmann OnLine, Europe's answer to internet bookseller Amazon.

T-Online Venture, the early-stage investor owned by Deutsche Telekom, Holtzbrinck NetworXs, the corporate venture arm of Hotzbrinck Media Group, and Weltbild, a book publisher, have acquired the company.
