Veteran Morgan Stanley trader departs as bank shuts market-making unit

A veteran of Morgan Stanley’s trading floor — who once helped run a lucrative proprietary trading desk — has left after almost 20 years at the US investment bank.

The departure of managing director Peter Bolland comes as Morgan Stanley prepares to close its so-called exchange-facing automated market-making business, which Bolland helped manage, according to people familiar with the matter. The unit has been winding down since the summer.
