Exchanges will always be capital raising entities. That said, exchanges have diversified revenue sources by leveraging their infrastructure to deliver technology, order routing and post-trade services, due, in large part, to increased competition and regulatory demands. While this diversification has meant that exchanges have broadened their business focus, these changes ultimately allow them to better serve their primary purpose as centres for raising capital.
