Vodafone douses speculation of $35bn Verizon bid for Sprint

Vodafone, the world's largest mobile-phone operator, has poured cold water on speculation that Verizon Wireless, the US's largest telephone company in which it has a 45% share, is preparing to wade into the $35bn battle for wireless telecoms group Sprint.

A spokesman for Vodafone said today that the company "is not in discussions with Verizon" about a potential bid.
