Keep markets open, Investment Association CEO tells Andrew Bailey

The debate about whether markets should close has intensified following a steep decline in stocks triggered by the coronavirus pandemic

The head of the trade body representing the UK’s £7.7tn investment industry has urged the new governor of the Bank of England not to shut stock markets because of coronavirus panic.

Chris Cummings, chief executive of the Investment Association, said in a letter on 24 March that he wished to assure Andrew Bailey that “our industry supports the continued opening of public markets”.
