Merrill Lynch has hired Magnus von Schlieffen as head of its equity business in Germany and Austria to replace Gebhard Klingenstein, who is retiring after five years in the post.

Von Schlieffen joins from CAI Chevreux, part of the Crédit Agricole group and one of France's largest broking houses, where he has been co-head of its German business for the past six years.
