Vulture funds circle distressed European assets

Private equity firms have raised €14.6bn since the start of 2008. But there is a dearth of opportunities in which to funnel these funds

Investors are increasingly keen to deploy capital in distressed debt funds in Europe, but many firms are biding their time and waiting for the best opportunities.

Distressed debt investing, an established market in the US, is relatively nascent in Europe, but with many European banks focused on deleveraging and a number of leveraged corporates facing a difficult economic environment and looming debt maturities, the conditions are ripe for the asset class to grow in Europe.
