Wall Street bosses force Grasso to quit

Purcell, Paulson and Harrison seal NYSE chief's fate

Dick Grasso has resigned as chairman and chief executive of the New York Stock Exchange after intervention from the heads of three leading Wall Street firms.

The announcement of Grasso's departure came late on Wednesday after an emergency board meeting. At the meeting directors were divided on Grasso's future but, crucially, several Wall Street chief executives on the board came down in favour of Grasso's departure.
