J Derek Penn is one of Wall Street’s veteran traders. He also happens to be one of the first few Black traders that managed to clinch a job ‘on the street’ and make his way through the financial crisis, and round the trading floors of Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers. Two years on from George Floyd’s murder, excerpts from his book, Diary of a Black Man on Wall Street, reflect how his fight for success ended up representing a battle on behalf of Black people
