Doug Cifu, the outspoken chief executive of Virtu Financial, said the Wall Street trading company has profited from the return of market volatility in August and has urged US President Donald Trump to “keep tweeting – it’s good for business”.

Virtu, a high-frequency trader, is able to make more money during periods of market volatility, when greater gaps open up between buying and selling prices on shares.
