Walter resigns from Dresdner but Breuer holds on

Bernhard Walter, Dresdner Bank's chief executive, will resign following the breakdown of its $29bn merger talks with Deutsche Bank yesterday.

Walter is expected to leave the bank at the end of the month. Dresdner pulled out of the merger yesterday following bitter rows over Deutsche's plans to sell all or part of Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, the bank's securities arm.
