Europe’s top lawyers don't just go to Oxford and Cambridge — they also attend universities including Liverpool, Manchester and Wolverhampton, according to analysis from Financial News.

Lawyers featured on FN’s list of 50 most influential lawyers in European legal services have educations ranging from University College Dublin to Facultés Universitaires Saint Louis in Brussels and the University of Sydney.

Twelve of the lawyers on the list attended Cambridge and Oxford, which have traditionally supplied a stream of graduates to leading law firms.

Other UK universities featured include The London School of Economics, Newcastle University, the University of Sheffield, Durham University, the University of Birmingham and the University of Hull.

Overseas universities included Université de Strasbourg Robert Schuman in France, Universita degli Studi di Milano in Italy, Universidad Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona in Spain, Westminster College in Missouri, USA, and the National Law School of India University in Bangalore.

FN analysed the universities attended by 47 of the lawyers on the upcoming list for which it had data.

Postgraduate study choices included Georgetown University Law Center and Columbia Law School in the USA and Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium.

Earlier this month FN published an excerpt of the list, showing that new entrants include Dechert’s Paris-based managing partner elect Sabina Comis, Paul Hastings’ London-based second managing partner Arun Birla and Clifford Chance’s managing partner Charles Adams
