The UK's accounting regulator has hit KPMG, a former partner and certain current and former employees, with a disciplinary formal complaint for providing it with allegedly "false and/or misleading" information in Carillion and Regenersis audit quality inspections.

The Financial Reporting Council alleged misconduct and said it had delivered the formal complaint against Peter Meehan, engagement partner for the Carillion audit, and Stuart Smith, the engagement partner for the Regenersis audit, according to a statement on 1 September.
