Watchdog wants auditors to spot fraud to avoid scandals like Wirecard and Patisserie Valerie

Auditors will be required to look for fraud under new proposals

The Financial Reporting Council is consulting on changes to strengthen the role of auditors in detecting fraud after a series of accounting scandals which have seen the collapse of several high-profile companies including Wirecard and Patisserie Valerie.

The auditors of German payments firm Wirecard and UK cake chain Patisserie Valerie missed massive holes in both firms' accounts which were caused by alleged frauds.
