David Watts, the former chief investment officer of Gartmore, has joined the board of Martin Currie, the Scottish investment manager, as a non-executive director.

Watts said he is impressed with Currie's investment team and the way Willie Watt, its chief executive, has been driving the business forward since joining the firm from private equity group 3i last year.
