A lesson in what banks offer society

The public needs to be taught, or at least reminded, about the good that banks do

Recruiters have no shortage of experienced bankers to choose from considering that the number of seats in the game of musical chairs declines every time the music stops at a given bank. But what’s keeping some senior executives up at night is where the next generation is going to come from.

Research published last week by Lloyds, which canvassed more than a thousand students, gives them some disturbing statistics to ponder: 28% of respondents said they'd be too embarrassed to tell their friends if they secured a job in banking, while just 2% of the sample said they were most likely to choose a career in financial services, with 26% tempted by the public sector.
