Will lack of vision kill off European investment banks?

Policymakers had better make up their minds about what they want financial markets to look like or the market will do it for them

It can sometimes be hard to sympathise with investment banks when they moan about the seemingly endless barrage of regulatory reform. But it is becoming increasingly difficult to disagree with one of their fundamental concerns.

The head of one European investment bank said recently that while he accepted the social and political imperative for reform, his biggest concern was that policymakers in Europe had no clear vision for where all of this reform was heading.
