Terry Benson, head of freshly-floated recruitment firm Michael Page, managed to win lots more friends at the Investor Relations magazine UK awards dinner in London last week. Benson took home the award for best investor relations on a new issue. This may surprise some shareholders, who saw their shares tumble last month after a warning on second-half growth, which came just a few months after the shares were floated at 175p. They are now 152p, having hit a high of 236p in April.
Accepting the award, Benson thanked financial journalists on The Guardian and Sunday Business for their coverage, saying 'at least someone knows a good company when they see one'. What Benson forget to mention was that the voting took place before the warning on growth, and perhaps he might not have been on stage that night otherwise.
