Writedowns hit $205bn

The Financial News writedown-ometer reached $205bn (€132bn) today after Lehman Brothers announced writedowns of $3.7bn in relation to mortgage-backed securities and leveraged loans. This pushed the US bank’s total writedowns since the start of the credit crisis to $7bn.

Last month the figure jumped by $10bn in one week after Barclays Capital, Société Générale, BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole and Natixis each reported writedowns in their credit portfolios for the first quarter of the year.
