Yen carry trade set for soft landing

Minutes from the Bank of Japan's February meeting published today emphasised that further interest rate rises would be gradual, restoring investors' faith that the yen carry trade is unlikely to come to an abrupt end.

Rising rates dent the appeal of the yen carry trade, in which investors borrow the low-rate Japanese currency to invest in currencies offering higher returns.
