Demand from law firms for recruits amid an ongoing deal boom is increasing junior lawyers’ ability to question prospective firms on their cultures of long hours and flexible work offerings, recruiters say.

Companies have announced deals valued at more than $3.6tn globally in the first eight months of the year, according to data from Dealogic, the highest total since it started keeping records in 1995.
