As the qualifying teams are decided for the Fifa World Cup in Russia next year, it is little wonder that Paul Taylor is thinking about football. But the global head of corporate sales in Bank of America Merrill Lynch's transaction banking division is still talking business. He is comparing the tactical theory of "total football", whereby players are not tied to specific positions, to how he wants bankers in the business to operate.
"We want players in our teams that are able to play in any position on the pitch, that are able to speak to any conversation that the client wants to have," said London-based Taylor in an interview alongside colleague Fernando Vicario, who runs BAML's corporate banking business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
