ED&F Man Capital Markets has raided 50 ex-staff from of its bankrupt former parent company MF Global to expand into global currency, debt and equity finance markets, Financial News has learnt.

Orchestrating the spree is Chris Smith, now ED&F Capital Markets global managing director, who was deputy chief executive of MF Global when it split from UK hedge fund manager Man Group in 2007.
