Goldman Sachs said it has rehired Mark Schwartz as chairman of the Asian Pacific region and a vice chairman of the global firm, underscoring the importance of the region to the New York-based investme

He will rejoin Goldman's Management Committee on which he served from 1999, when the firm went public, until his departure in 2001. He will be based in Beijing.
