Hundreds of payments firms did not respond to a survey from the sector’s regulator over the summer as it sought information on how ready they were for landmark new fraud rules.

Since 7 October, banks and other payment firms have had to pay out up to £85,000 to victims of money transfer scams known as authorised push payment frauds.
